Welcome to Piddinghoe Church, St. John the Evangelist, near Newhaven, East Sussex.

Piddinghoe Church is a lovely 12th century church situated in the Ouse Valley, just north of Newhaven. Adjacent to the river, and in the picturesque village of Piddinghoe, the church is open daily from 9.30 am until dusk.

St. John’s Church is a place of contemplation, reflection and peace and offers a blend of Anglican ministry and caring pastoral work.

There are two Sunday services every month plus a range of diverse seasonal services from Remembrance and Mothering Sunday to Harvest Festival, Carols and an animal-friendly service. Visitors are welcome to join our village community services regardless of faith or creed.

Our bell tower dates from the 12 Century and the three bells from 1713. We secured funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and privately to restore, repair and refurbish our three current bells to allow them to be rung full circle and to add three more treble bells to achieve a peel of six.

This exciting project involved local Newhaven schools with an oral history project and opportunities to learn both hand bell and full circle bell ringing.
